Elena Morena

Biografi:

Elena was born 1984 in Zurich and grew up in a small Swiss village close to the Italian border. After completing her studies at Iwanson School for Contemporary Dance in Munich, Elena worked for numerous choreographers and theatremakers as a dancer, performer, actress, choreographer and choreographic assistant. In 2014 she performed the main role in the theatre piece Barone Utopia by Theater Jetzt | Oliver Kühn. She is the main character in the movie Quieta… Inquietudine, awarded with the audience price at Loikka Dance Film Festival for the 60secondsdance competition in Helsinki in 2016. Elenas choreographic work is dedicated to topics such as belonging and memory. Inspired by the complex facets of her roots, she uses body, space and other media to stage them in a narrative, abstract context, ever exploring unconventional settings. Her solo RÖSTIGRABE won the first price at the solo dance contest at the Festival Zeitverschwendung! at E-Werk in Freiburg (DE) in 2015. SPUREN, a collaboration with Mirjam Sutter in 2016, arises from a research about archaic Swiss rituals. Her first full length piece GEORGE was created in 2017 in coproduction with the collective OFF deluxe. It takes its inspiration from the giant Pinta turtle Lonesome George, who died in 2012.

Elena lives in Zurich and is internationally active in the field of performing arts. In 2018, Elena is a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart.              www.elenamorena.com

Klassbeskrivning:

The class starts with a simple warm up that makes the energy level rise. Body and mind are then ready for floor sequences on the spot and through space. Particular attention is given to the ability of the body of being soft and tonic, expanded and compact at the same time. Intensifying the dynamic of movement, we’ll find verticality through improvisation tasks and structured movement patterns. We work on endurance and reactivity, on the perception of the group and the space. In longer sequences we’ll search for fluidity and efficiency of the movement. We are aiming to soften and wake up the body, develop muscular strength and physical condition, experiencing a full body work out to eventually get ready for the day. As a certified GYROTONIC® trainer, the principles of this expansion system influence my class.
