Canan Yucel Pekicten

BIO

Canan Yücel Pekiçten is a dance artist, choreographer and academic at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory Contemporary Dance Department in Istanbul. She has Bachelor, Master, and Proficiency in Arts degrees in dance.  Her works were performed in festivals and venues in Utrecht, Vilnius, Gdansk, Gothenburg, New York, Turin, Pamplona, Paris, Amsterdam, Lisbon and İstanbul. With her performance, she was awarded first prize at the 8th Gdansk Solo Dance Contest. As a dance artist, she collaborates with Turkish and International choreographers and visual artists and participated in several festivals as well as the 58th Venice Biennale. She has been granted artist residencies in Saari Residence (Kone Foundation, FI), 3:e Våningen (SE), Movement Research (ArtsLink, US), Espace Darja (MA), Tanzhaus NRW (DE), A Corner in the World (TR), Cité Internationale des Arts (FR) and Dansmakers Amsterdam,(BMCT Program, NL).

 

Class Description

The class starts with the warm up based on a short improvisation which will provide the base movement focus for the rest of the course.  The course will continue with short exercises followed by a longer combination to end the class to give chance to participants to excelsior the movement elements explored from beginning of the course. The course will offer an exploration of a movement dynamic with the quick changes on the resistance, weight, and directions, as well as focusing on the mobility of the upper body and traveling in the space. Participants will also be challenged to expand the scale of their movement with their gaze.
