Working with Props Tisdag 9:e Juni 9.00-12.00

Online-Workshop with Rachel Tess

What are the objects we chose to have with us when dancing or choreographing? How do we relate to them with our bodies, what do they represent, and how do they create intended and unintended meaning? Through the workshop ‘Working with props’ we will use what we have in the rooms we are in, the rooms we spend time in continuously – every day objects – in combination with movement practices to question and understand the notion of scenic elements in dance and choreography.

Complex Simplicity 25-26 april – framflyttad till den 28-29 november

Workshop with Sita Ostheimer

Kulturakademin i samarbete med Dansalliansen och Danscentrum Väst

The beginning of the workshop is based on an improvisation technique called COMPLEX SIMPLICTY, developed by Sita Ostheimer, which brings the mover towards an understanding of totality in movements and perception, through connecting to senses and imagination, recognising limits and learning how to deal with them. The physical guidance gives the dancers an understanding of their connection between mind and body in order to be in control of their own physical instrument and therefore continue growing creatively and technically and mentally.

Further into the workshop a game of images, situations, feelings, rhythm are use to create material. The physicality is built on fast rhythmical changes of emotions and Images. The movement language is expressive, fluent, sensual and earthy. The unique animalistic movement language that arises from the human instinct is Sita Ostheimer’s particular and peculiar signature in dance.

Hösten 2019 –

Master class with Nola Rae is replaced due to injury

Acting in Modern Mime / Nonverbal Theatre with Bartlomiej Ostapczuk

The work will be led by Bartlomiej Ostapczuk who is the artistic director of the International Mime Art Festival in Warsaw and founder of the Warsaw Mime Center and Mimo Mime Theatre in Poland. He is an experienced workshop teacher.

The masterclass of Mr. Ostapczuk will present variety of exercises divided into different categories. From basic for his teaching system logical combination of breath and movement in a non-verbal theater through its various forms which appeared in the last few decades, to the completely modern form of mime theatre. The idea is not to teach the style of singular creator, the goal is completely opposite. The basic principle which should govern mime theatre is a skilled combination of thoughts, emotions and actions.

By exploring specific exercises, we will aim to experience, feel and, as a result, to understand that. The classes also consist in analyzing movements, our emotional states and the way they are demonstrated.

These classes present the method of modern Mime / Pantomime acting, which allows the actor to present a clear stream of thought to an audience. Monologue, dialogue, message are then used as part of etudes and improvisation, where they develop realism and the clarity of purpose.
In this 5 hour masterclass created a specially for GBG Mime Fest we will find a space for poetry and comedy as well.

In the early 1990s he moved to the Netherlands where he studied Mime at the Amsterdam School of the Arts.  Upon his graduation in 1998 he was presented with the Top Naeff award for the most promising student. His gift for choreography had been noticed and so had his poeticism and his ability to get his cast to unleash their energy, bravado and physicality. The award jury described him as an eager, outstanding and exuberant talent.

After graduating he worked with a variety of theatre makers as a performer, choreographer and director. In 2000 he started working on his own, idiosyncratic oeuvre.

Action based choreography – workshop med Lidia Vos

Re-connect with your body. Move with greater ease, while feeling more relaxed and energised at the same time.

A unique and constantly evolving tool for dancers and non dancers alike, using visual imagery and tactile exercises to help release the body and heighten awareness on many levels. From simple ball imagery exploring inner and outer body, to delicate touch guidance, causing an array of dynamics, from extremely fragile to surprisingly powerful.
Ideal for braking habitual movement patterns.

Heidi’s interest lies in discovering a deeper knowledge of the body’s possibilities for the benefit of others and to continue developing her own distinctive movement language. Stream-Flow is an effective and creative approach to bridging different dance forms or just bring more joy to your life through movement.
The focus of this workshop will be on integrating heightened inner and outer awareness as the foundation of endless initiations and physical organisations.

We will work on separating the body into small sections from joint to joint and space to space. We’ll also develop phrases of movement that will allow for surprising initiations, and a richer result with less effort and a rich pallet of dynamics. At the end, we will blend our personal experiences with new ideas allowing transformation and a different approach to creation

Gain confidence through developing a deeper understanding of your body, and experience a deeper sense of well being.

Feldenkreis – workshops med Paul Pui Wo Lee

Workshop 1: ”The expressive range of your arms : poetic health-based artistry with the Feldenkrais Method®”

I could never perform technique. It was a losing game. I watched snippets of Pina Bausch dancers and realised that the gift of being a dancer is to paint through space, and in doing so, we get the privilege of shaping our voices to communicate with other people. The movement of our arms can weave poignant poetry and that is what I’d love to facilitate with my Feldenkrais teaching this time. I will like to help you all discover and experience more freedom by helping you understand in your sensation of how they relate to the chest, even your hip joints! It’s not possible to move parts of yourself in isolation. Power, articulation, range, fluidity and efficiency can be gained through the clear ”feeling” of the functional relationships of all your different parts. We’re not looking at what is right or wrong but rather developing our ability to feel what movement options work best for your personally. This is a process of reaping wiser movement patterns to support your wellbeing as you thrill yourself with your human, artistic voice. I hope you discover what an amazing example of human potential you are during this workshop.

Workshop 2: Dancing is very much about the feet, but how intimately do we actually know them?

They are not only for gesturing, but we depend on them for the support and articulate mobilisation of everything above.  In this workshop, we’ll be seeing how the feet relate to the knees, hips, lower back, and neck to bring about more vitality in our expression and assurance in our technique.  We will explore very systematic lessons that help us find all the planes and degrees of motion in our feet and ankles that you may continue to revisit on your onward dance journey.

Applied Dance Dramaturgy – A Workshop on the Usefullness of Dance Dramaturgy in Choreographic Practices 10-12 maj

In the field of dance, dramaturgy is still a relatively new discipline and a new profession, which is therefore still viewed with curiosity and suspicion. All too often one wonders what dramaturgy actually is. But instead of losing ourselves in endless attempts at definition, we will – in this intense theory-practical Workshop – concentrate more on what dramaturgy can actually do, both for choreographers and for dance as such.

We will take a closer look into various dramaturgical practices. Such as focussing on methods that can help to concretize and contextualize artistic ideas, for example for project proposals or program texts, but also for collaboration within the artistic team. However, we will also examine the content and dynamics of some dance pieces as case studies and thus fathom the significance of dramaturgy as a choreographic tool in dance.

This workshop is open for those who did not have the opportunity to join in last November as well as for participants of last year’s introductory workshop. Together we will refresh our knowledge and deepen it in different exercises and case studies.

Thomas Schaupp is a free-lancing dance dramaturg based in Berlin. He is collaborating with several international choreographers, currently with Anne-Mareike Hess, Janne-Camilla Lyster, Camille Mutel and Stian Danielsen. As a mentor and advisor for young choreographers he collaborates with institutions such as Dansearena Nord in Hammerfest and KHIO in Oslo. Thomas is a guest teacher at the Inter-University Centre for Dance in Berlin and facilitates workshops on dance-dramaturgy in choreographic centres across Europe. In collaboration with Ibsen International and Goethe Institut Beijing he also co-curates a Cultural Exchange Program on Dance Dramaturgy in China.

The Act of Listening

Improvisation weekend with Asher Lev

2 – 3 mars 2019

Kulturakademin i samarbete med Dansalliansen och Danscentrum Väst

To be listening is to be leaning in towards meaning before interpretation arrives. This mode of attunement creates a space of potentiality in which we can zoom into the subtleties of an existing sensorial input. To listen is therefore to be inspired by what one hears.

”After years of improvising as a dancer in the Batsheva Ensemble Dance Company, I found that focusing on the sounds that naturally exist in every space, is a rich source of inspiration for movement improvisation. In this intensive workshop, we will develop an expanded concept and practice of listening which will function as our generative core for movement. We will borrow from circular breathing, sitting and walking mediation and somatic practices. We will infuse our improvisation skills with interest as we pass through alternative modes of awareness, visit various physical states and improve our motor skills by the excess of attention given to subtleties of dynamic body sensations. By listening we will connect to an authentic experience of improvisation and movement.

We begin from still meditative positions that sustain subtle concentration and slowly start reacting to the sounds that exist in the room. We will give more space to what we hear, rather than what we see. Slowly but surely, the listening practice becomes more dynamic to the point in which we can move swiftly, shake vigorously, extend our bodies far into the space, cut across the floor and even work on the limits of our own stamina. We will be making quicker decisions that are more attuned to the energy and atmosphere of the space. We will be able to work on alternative configurations of the body’s balance and alignment. We will gain a different understanding about continuous and fluid movement. Finally, we will become more sensitive to vibrations and resonance that our bodies share with the sonorous spaces we are in.”

Intuition in Action

Workshop with Stephen Rappaport

Kulturakademin in cooperation with Dansalliansen och Danscentrum Väst

”The workshop offers a framework designed for participants to experience, articulate and expand their artistic voices. I have found involvement in a variety of creative processes facilitates an ever-deepening trust for instinct, intuition and imagination that leads to greater self-esteem, integrity and charisma.

The objective of this workshop is for participants to build greater trust in their intuition, impulses and ideas. The work is fun, fascinating, empowering and definitely challenging. Material is generated. Tools are discovered.” Stephen Rappaport

Important! All participants should be able to attend the entire workshop and COME ON TIME. The workshop cannot begin without everyone being present.
